The Singing Mother

I had a mother who sang to me,
Songs of faith and songs of love,
Songs of praise and songs of gratitude,
To God whose majesty she adored and revered.

I had a mother who sang to me,
Songs accompanied by violin with expertise,
The sweet sounds of her violin strings,
Still echoes in my mind.

I had a mother who sang to me,
Melodies of hope and prayer,
Of God’s wonderful mercies,
Of his abundant grace and mighty deeds.

You may have riches untold,
Trunkets of gold and boxes of  jewels,
Wealthier than I, you can never be,
I had a mother who sang to me.

(2005)

The poem tells of the author's adoration for his mother's talent in singing.
