Just a dance

I dreamt, vivid, I asked your hand to dance,
conscious uncaring we whirl together
Is it too much to ask for such a chance?
I know I have asked, and you said never,
But it’s not easy to drop affection
We are friends yes, but why not lovers too?
I have little fear left of rejection
But fear holds fast at thought of losing you
Sometimes I think that if we could just kiss
You’d realise we are right for each other
And we’d be happy with nothing amiss.
A fancy. But I’ll yet dream another
As thoughts unceasing mill, with nothing new
For now, my head and heart are stuck on you
