Last Breath

Time stops, as I am struck by memories
I see my family, and the love that surrounded us
I see the all of my firsts
Learning moments, and times I thought I knew it all
The tears from laughs streaming
I remember that time
I see all of your faces, and I am overcome with warmth
Staying up until late hours
Doing nothing, but enjoying the company
The smell of the locations visited
The astonishing beauty of mountains viewed from a plane
Music that made my ears light up
I appreciate the craziness, and embrace the pain that life brings
In my final moments I am untroubled
The memorable beings that I will not leave behind
Their spirits will latch to me, as I fade
Seconds until my last breath
I love you
My voyage on earth ends
Only to start a new one elsewhere
Hold my hand as I go
My last breath is taken
And my spirit is free

(2013)

This poem is not meant to be sad. It is simply a poem of how I think our last breath may be. I know death is a touchy subject, but it is a very real thing.
