if you were to ask me how i feel,
i’d say you remind me of autumn,
in the way
that leafy color change
isn’t beautiful enough to stop the trees from dying
you can count on me
to always watch your leaves concede,
until eventually it’s winter,
and the snowy waters seep into
the seeds i’ve saved come may
and in that same breath
i’ll watch them grow,
knowing the season that separates us
is a home to them
