Once upon a Time

To me

Once Upon a Time

We talked and we laughed
We shared and we cried,
Our souls wept while our hearts rejoiced,
For the pain you helped me face shattered the bars that imprisoned my joy.

And I met the soul that was walking on my path and I was happy,
Happiness can never be faked,
It must be forged by the hand of the Master,
A light the burns so bright,
An eternal truth that can never be denied.

He chose you to be my teacher for which I was happy and I obliged,
For he who dare question divinity, is the fool that rushes in where angels fear to tread.

Yet our place was never to be at each other’s side for we would never grow standing in each other’s shadow,
Apart, but joined by the red thread of love we were destined to be, growing not in each other’s shadows but by the depths of our own roots.

But, sadly, you were not my teacher, but the lesson to be learnt and one that I must painfully, yet gratefully, accept.
Yet my mortality and self-will rose up to challenge the universe in a blind rage that laid waste to all before me.

That which was once fertile with love was now barren by rage.
Yet the Master, in his infinite wisdom showered the raging inferno with a peace unbeknown to those who have never raged or loved to a point of madness.

We may think that we are looking for another as we roam this world,
No my beloved, we will one day realise, either in this life or the next, that we were, in fact, all this time searching for the soul that was walking on our path.

And when we do find them, our joy shall know no bounds and we shall be lost no more.
How can I say this, for I may have met him; after I was cleansed by the fires of hell.

Yes, a private hell that only my God and I knew,
Blacker than night yet the fires burned bright,
My beloved sent me there and hell was my saviour,

Because I knew my God would never abandon me if I reached out through my tears and my pain and it is through those self same tears that my rainbow now shines for all to see.

Against all odds I love you for all that you shared with me and all that you took away from me,
For now I know that my saviour lies not in others but in me.

I am free, yes I am; to be as I please
But I should take care that my freedom should never breed a selfishness that hurts another,
But, rather that it’s sole purpose should be to nourish and to nurture.

Who will protect me if not myself, you may ask,
Trust that as you give to the universe so shall it give to you,
And we shall grow old together happy in knowing that once upon a time we loved and honoured the souls walking on our paths in this life and the next.
