Shadows in Twilight
Just walk away before the sun sets too low
Before the horizon blocks the light and our eyes become muted in shadow
What once was full of beauty has been revealed in truths of purple, orange and gold
Slowly fading away into a soft muted grey
Scarlet Begonias you say remind you of me but
The rings on my fingers have long since been lost
The bells on my shoes have stopped their jingle
My curls have all gone flat
And those scarlet begonias have fallen, frozen in winter’s cold and furious wrath
I am not like other girls, you knew that right away
But it was just an illusion, because you didn’t want to stay
What once existed in happiness has dissipated... dissolving into a dimly lit dusk
Leaving me with nothing more than a broken heart and a sorely weakened trust
The beauty of my soul has been lost on you
The alcohol seeps quickly, takes control and destroys
I’m just another of your special lady friends
Just another of your numerous little toys
