To my precious child
“A piece of my heart”
Grief had taken my heart
and filled it full of sorrow.
I thought I’d hold you forever
but you were only mine to borrow.
With my mind still fixed on you
and my heart so full of love,
I said a loving prayer for you
as I looked for comfort from above.
“Lord help me with this grief of mine
and watch my little heart
hold it very close to You
for as long as we’re apart.”
He answered me with patience
and a kind, loving voice
“A piece of your heart is here with me
although it wasn’t your choice
you don’t understand it now
it’s only mine to know
but this child I’m holding
will never feel pain or woe
I hold it in My very hands
for all the angels to see
and I’ll hold it while you’re waiting
'til I call you home Me”
