Incidental insanity

I saw the rush of life slipping out,
I heard it’s waves crashing upon the floor,
I carried the Crimson in my hands as to test the depth of its reality,
The sharp slap of the door transported my thoughts to the past,

The call of my child filling my ears,
Her steps in the hall filling my heart with joy,
I witnessed her peering around the cracked door as to get a glimpse of the person she longed to be,
I stop by the door to reach around in a wrap her in a warm embrace,

I touch her gentle hands,
Eerily still,
And allow insanity to wash over me.
