A Boy

I was once a boy in the wide open world
and it was endless in front of me
I was happy in everything it held
like a sailor in love with the sea

like a pilot who could do as he pleased
and skier coming down on the snow
I didn’t think of who would agree
I only thought of the part left to go

and there was plenty left in way
and plenty left in the feel
and no problem with the words to say
and no business in the way to deal

I was young and had the say
I was young and had the mind
I was young and knew the day
was something you hold and find

you could hold it in the fingertips
and let it go when you pleased
it was always found in a woman’s lips
who could talk and kiss with ease

but that was the way to be caught
that was the way to be done
but many a time you gave a thought
to a loving wife’s hold and a young child’s fun

but you’re still with a drink in the hand
and a women is giving you eyes
and you feel alone in a lonely land
and a women is giving you eyes

do you remember a boy in a wide open world
when it was endless in front of you
do you remember all the things you held
and all you desired to do.
