Nights We Want to Forget

The Pain We Must Feel

Oh, the pain we must feel
To drown our bodies in poison
Searching, longing for some kind of
Relief
When, in reality,
We’re doing the opposite
Sloppy, obnoxious, and stammering.
Pictures photographers won’t remember taking
Capture drinks and drugs
Our bodies let us know
We indulged in due to the even more
Excruciating pain they radiate
The day after
-
We’re so afraid of Armageddon & zombies
But create a ghost like fairytale of nights
Only those barely sober enough to comprehend
Our bragging stories and careless actions
Will remember and be haunted by
The day after.
The reality we experience
As young, privileged adults on these nights
Is a facade, a fake
Of false happiness & carefree times
Which almost always
Lead to frantic, worrisome, shameful
Mornings.
-
Oh, How great is the pain we must feel
In order for us to carry on this glamorized
Life of everything we’re told we want
And in return, think we need
When biology screams for us
Over the next few days to
Give it up
