Fruit of my Life

Ample succulent flesh
Tastes so sweet when ripe.
Yet decaying and black at the very core
The ruse, the show, of the red outer heart

What was once full of life
Only remains empty shells that once promised growth.
Black and decayed at the very center
But still I can’t get enough.
The sweetness outweighs the distaste.
