perhaps

Three doors await along
life’s corridor
passage only through one
a necessary choice
needed to be made
and behind each door
a whispering seduction
murmuring, pulling, hardly heard  or clear
so with little pause
most often a given
to not choosing well
so attracted as we are
to easy knobs
and painted over simple pine
choosing ease and beauty
every door
every time
how different would  life be
to open doors
marked  open with difficulty
and of unpainted peeling veneer
knob less, handle gone
challenge to easy passage
behind which lies
a corridor unknown
a chance to be taken
courage remembered or
renewed
taken by so few
a chance taken perhaps
perhaps by me
perhaps by you
