Last Laugh

Lined up the gunmen
with sparkling garments, one by one
spelled doom for the poor prisoner
who gazed at the setting sun.
The pompous captain stood tall,
listlessly detailing the crime.
Damned by signatures and paper,
weary prisoner knew it was time.
Anger held for one last stand
against the almighty Man
as the captain asked he who was damned.
“Say you, guilty man, what is your last request?”
And the prisoner, failing to surrender, uttered last
“Bring me a bulletproof vest.”
And with that last rebuke, he died.
