house and home

Silent homes bare the most secrets
Sealed in the cracks
Stained on the floors
Marked walls give the room character
Evidence of a life well-lived

But with these thoughts,
I wander through the hallways
Down the stairs
Into the living room
Dining room
Kitchen
And back again

Repeating my steps
Trying to remember
When was the last time
These walls heard laughter
Heard my singing
Felt my dancing

These walls are a bore now
No life with its muted shadows
Maybe if I close my eyes
I can see it again

NO that doesn’t help
All I see is darkness

Maybe if a touch this wall
I could feel your embrace

NO that doesn’t help
All I feel is stiffness

Why can’t I go back
I want to so badly

Aren’t you excited?”

My husband’s name was Daniel
I hope he looks as handsome
As he
