The Continuous Turn

Through dark seasons past I’ve pondered on
And there I’ve seen tomorrow,
For life is a continuous turn of turbulence,
Tragedy, and sorrow.
O’ the tempest winds of time does coldly blow,
Never to refrain,
For what has become the breadth of antiquities
Shall forward flow the same!

Through many seasons of everlasting night
Does yet the truth display,
As time has carried upon its passing ages
The endurance of dismay.
O’ the grinding ills of long ago I see this day
And sadly shall tomorrow,
For the world is a continuous turn of turbulence,
Tragedy, and sorrow!

Through many seasons I have seen the past,
Darkened by prejudges, hatred, and of war;
Yet each dawn brings forth the hopeful days
That shall bring these things no more.
But, alas, this day is nothing more than yesterday,
And no promise lies for tomorrow,
For yet the world is a continuous turn of turbulence,
Tragedy, and sorrow!
