My Anonymous Friend: Love

Love, you’re such an abstract concept
Many believe the mass of the brain
can comprehend your enigmatic qualities
Rather your visual attributes.

Love, you wouldn’t even know yourself
If you pondered across a mirror at a bar
And said “hey,
Can I get you a drink?”

Love, you bound no limits
Rather create them
Guide us more like fences bordering the path
Than the dirt itself.

Come down from your fences, love
Come down to Earth
Because one way or another
You will hit it.

I plead, love
Come sit
And let’s talk about how your day was,
Not mine.

I find you listening
When losing you is harder
Than fueling
Your very existence.

But more than all
I know you are here
When I cannot even fathom
Comparing the two.

And when you aren’t here
I’ll always sit in the same seat
Aw this table for two
Just without you in the other.

Because yes, love
You are selfish
Life goes on without you
But life couldn’t live without you.
