Translucent

You can cry all the tears that you can produce,
And scream all the agony you feel.

You can reach for the heavens and plead for an excuse,
And bargain and reason for a deal.

You can lead a life of constant dread
And can drown in the misery you live.

You can rise above it all with shaky hands,
By your own guidance, and the guidance I give.

But I, with my troubles that to you seem so minor,
But only the exterior you see.

But I with my trauma masked by superficial superiority,
Cover a truth that will set me free.

And you with your competitiveness,

And I with my willingness,

And you with your troubles,

And I with my masking,

We will create the most perfect masquerade.

And you will dance in your ignorance,

And I will dance behind a mask,

And will continue this harmful charade.

And I with a voice that has been forgotten,

And you with your voice, the only being heard.

With the last of my troubles buried deeply within,
You will always have the last word.

And no matter how many secret cries,
I cry in the dead of night.

And no matter how many hugs from loved ones,
I will never be “alright.”

And no matter how many obstacles life will throw at you,
You always manage to be innocent.

But to me and my problems you look the other direction,
Labeling you forever in my mind as “translucent”.
