The Rock and the Sea

“Come with me!” she says to him,
“And stay with me for good!
Come with me now!” she shouts at him,
as if he really could.

And slams the sea upon the rock
with force to shatter stars.
The clouds appear, this pair to mock
and boast of life lived without bars.

“Strike me once more, yes strike again
I’m here to withstand.
I’ll keep your love and tend your pain,
as those two walk in hand.
I cannot come, you cannot stay.
Oh! Fate why art thou cruel?
To make a game that they can’t play,
who are its truest fuel.

“By sunless days and moonless nights,
together we have sung.
Survivors of the fiercest fights,
since mount and hill were young!”

“A piece of me does go with you,
some drops of you remain.
Each time dressed in a different hue,
this longing; no more can I restrain.
I’d break and follow in a blink,
I’d shatter; but I’d leave.
Inside you deeply I would sink
and you’d no more need grieve.”

“No, do not speak! Such words are ill!
Stay whole, albeit afar.
I’d never have your words go still,
you’d ever be an open scar.
I’ll steal a glance,
a hurried touch,
a calm swift dance!
I ask not much.
Let us go on as we are now,
this pain we can endure.
Defeat we two, can but allow,
the winning’s never sure!
But the loss, that’s certainty!
If we do not stand tall!
And when it will be you or me
together we shall fall!”

“I am the Rock,
she is the Sea.
Our fates did lock
and we can’t flee!
We may run dry
or simply fall,
but we’ll still try
and never stall.
She is my one,
I am her true.
be there no sun,
we’ll still pull through.
For bonds are forged
in heat of pain,
and when one’s lodged
still both remain!
There is no other way to love,
but to, for all, unite.
And if the end just hangs above,
then still; we love despite.”
