NATURE’S CHILD

Look not to the rubbish, her friend;
The discarded cement slabs,
The rusty tin.

But, rather,
Look to the pelicans
Bringing life to the pond again.

Do not stare at the styro-foam,
The stray cats
Or rotted carcasses
That smolder Mother Earth.

Instead,
Listen to the sandhill cranes
Gently yielding new birth.

Hear the sound of children,
See sunrises and sunsets,
Listen to the shrill of a red-winged black bird
Echoing,
Nature’s yet to display her best.

And she makes ALL the difference.
