REALITY of the black child

SHYRIAH MYRICK

Let me just be honest
Let me keep it real
Since you didn’t

I gave and I pushed
But you couldn’t
You took and you pulled

You killed me, you crushed me
I loved you I lived you
And you never did the same

See I drowned in your lies
While you swam in my love
I realized life was bittersweet so I became you

Growing up i was called names
Ugly black girl with a weird name
You’ll never be nothing, you’re not the same
Babygirl you’re trash that won’t change

I can only be me
I can’t change what you see
I’ve tried so many times
I’ve gotten caught up in more lies

I’ve always been happy with me
But I’d rather be you
Not because you’re prettier
Not because you’re what I like to see
But because society says you’re better than me
