Night Launch
Muscles of the bold black sky
rippled stars
The warrior Perseus, his bow strung
aimed flaming arrows towards
the brilliant constellations roaming
nocturnal plateaus
Perfect backdrop for a night launch
Myself, David, and my twin brothers
Chris and Pat had front row seats
on the brick pathway directly in
front of our house in Palm Bay, Florida
Excited, we waited as the
countdown began
suddenly a neon glow
appeared over the northern horizon
A man made star, Delta IV
hurled itself at the speed of sound
like a Greek discus
into the unknown
Our eyes glued to the
spectacular launch
we craned our necks
watching as the
solid rocket motors
burned out
separating from the main
rocket
which then soon
disappeared from view
Amidst effervescent smiles
and high fives
we all agreed that
this has to be one of
the Greatest Shows
on Earth!
