[Part I] - Patrick

Part I of a four part song series that I've written over the past few years. As the next idea forms for where the story went, I wrote it. I never forced the story, but let it develop naturally.

A story, oh so incomplete
About a boy who took it all and gave it to the sea
He had with him a small guitar.
A Pennywhistle. Fare.
If anything, it cost his heart
The reason he was there

"Patrick, your songs touch our hearts
Patrick, no…"

“Go write your sad songs down” she said,
“I’ll hold it together.”
Go, write your sweet lullabies, and she’ll close her eyes
She’ll always be waiting for you.

Singer of songs. Writer of epic tales
Where princesses are rescued from being slaves
Dragons, hearts and one true love
Patrick, get your fame

Then come home to your loved ones
Especially one whose flowers fade
Forget-me-nots drop petals
as she wonders if she’ll be the one you save.

Patrick…your songs touch our hearts
Patrick…no…

Go write your sad songs down she said
Ill hold it together.
Go write your sweet lullabies and she’ll close her eyes
She’ll always be waiting for you.

Four years pass. Still no sign
Shoes and ships and sealing wax
A new sail filled our sky
April ninth, was her birthday
“Times may change,” she said to us
We knew it as a lie.

Patrick….your absence is tangible
Please come home
