The Years Came and Went

Of Twenty Kids

The top five, the squads
Bunch of high fives, and burps
Embraces and warm hugs
Hearty cheers and 'see you laters’
Glasses raised, hand-in-hand
Kisses passed, and smiles all around
It was goodbye without words, the end
We promised to keep in touch, pass calls around
Look me up in a few years
Not that long, you’ll see me in a few weeks
I shouted across the room, to the hallways
This isn’t goodbye, no goodbyes please
She said keep in touch guys
We all nodded, graduation nights
You drink, you nod, then dance
But deep down, in true thoughts
Though none wanted to admit it
The lies we were all telling
There would be no calling, no texting
The moment we left that room, the ending
