The Apex

I don’t edge away in anger,
I hide away in my shame.
I know you can feel my hunger,
yet you barely know my name.
Palms are sweaty, my body’s ready
but I clam up and get tongue tied.
My heart still needs some time.

I’m just intimidated, my fire was sated
Until you caught my eye
and I kissed the waiting game goodbye.
I hope you know I’m scared
Once my soul is bared, it’s bared.
So if I put my heart in your hands
will you squeeze it? Crush it?
I need you to understand,
I am fragile through and through
With a spirit made of love
and my flames have begun to burn for you.

I’ll hold onto you for dear life
love you straight down to your core
but I’m terrified of falling in love,
its left me bruised and damaged and sore.
Don’t take it personally when I walk away,
I’m nervously contemplating
how to get over myself
and give you my absolute everything.
So if you can tell me,
you truly understand
then I will take you to the apex
of when a woman truly loves a man.
