All i ever wanted

That blue-gray rainy day,
the blue-gray funeral parlor.
There you were
laid out in blue and gray.

So still.

So quiet.

Touchable
for a change.

You were cold
like blue-gray marble.

That moment
my reluctant hand
caressed your
blue-gray brow;
it struck me then
this was the only time
we had touched
without violence,
ever.

That moment
echoes still
with an icy
blue-gray chill.

Finally i could speak
that you might hear,
though i’m certain
you would not,
nor could not
ever listen.

These words
slipped like stones
from my lips
into the
blue-gray
silence;

"All i ever wanted
was to love you."
