I Want To Be Forever Young

You and me,
We used to be,
Mentor and the student.

You and me,
Shall always be,
Elder and the younger.

How I miss those fond days,
Nostalgic memories lost with age.
We’d cross the street to the park,
Learn to ride a bike through the maize.

Me and you,
Thing 1 and thing 2.
We’d watch all the films,
It’s all we would do.

You’d play all the hits,
Barbra Ann and Fun Fun Fun.
To reminisce about then...
All I want is to be forever young.

You taught me to tie my shoes,
You showed me how to walk.
I learned to love academia,
It all started with your board and chalk.

You were strict but fair,
Encouraged me to explore.
Inflamed my brain,
Question life like never before.

Sit and watch the news,
Hear him roar.
A world in flames.
Disgust at the war.

Rationale and loyalty,
Decrypting the Guardian, Mail and more.
You’d always make time for us,
Even if you missed the Final Score.

The times we spent together,
How I’d love to spend more.
I feel so vulnerable in life.
I wish I could see you once more.

You were always there,
Throughout times of strife.
The mentor and friend I needed,
The shinning star throughout my life.

You and me,
We used to be,
The sharp old man and keen learner.

You and me,
Will always be,
Grandad and grandson forever.
