Alzheimers

To Miss Harry

Oh, beautiful woman that I wed
They tell me that you’re dead
Using euphemisms to make me feel better
Reminding me of memories i don’t remember

I scratch my head in confusion because they must be lying
I can’t recall you ever dying
I become livid and demand their lying cease
They tell me it’s a side effect of my dreadful disease
I mull it over and pray it’s not true
Because it’s impossible to forget you
I reach a conclusion and then decide
That I’m thankful for what my memories choose to hide
Forgetting is now what i endeavour to pursue
Because it means i can still hold on to you
