Sequoia

Forever to noon
Smoke on my tongue
Take one step backward
Eyes on the ground

And I’m nauseous

Colors fade away
Black to white to gray
Needles in my arm
I’m wide awake

And sleepwalking

The push and pull
Of this thirsty crowd
The sky isn’t high enough
But silence is too loud

So hold on tight

Hoods come up
My lips are stained
I’ve got the head of a lion
Ink in my veins

Baby drawing

We taste the pavement
Cold against my leg
Your breath is taboo
They’ll give what they take

Your parallel spirit

Lace up your shoes
Sequoia is calling
And I start to wonder
Am I jumping or falling

Or unwinding

I’ll take a light in the dark
You’re a submarine on fire
I’ve been flying all night
The dirt sparkles, you’re tired

So sleep here tonight

I’m high and low
Dreaming and mending
Sequoia, she tells me
The world is ending

And I let go
