What Has Happened?

My best friend as a child was my heart
The love she felt for me could never fall apart
She laughed and sang till my bones looked her way
And loved with every drop of joy she had saved.
But as I sit here alone in this empty house
My heart is starving, she is full of doubts
The loneliness, the betrayal has made her weak
Now she fills me with cries that make it hard to speak
She wants love, needs it bad
So desperate she’ll take anything you have.
My heart should know better,
Then to pick a drug up when you don’t know the dealer.
But she never thinks, just wants,
Because the hunger she feels is just too much.
So even though life teaches her lessons
To not trust a soul and have a little patience
My heart never learns, she never listens
Only latches on to the next heart in hopes that they taste delicious.
