They called me
around midnight,
you were gone,
vanished,
into the night,
they found you
at the hospital,
a gunshot wound
to the chest,
that’s what I was told,
I went
to see you
in the hospital,
you looked so frail,
and weak,
and fragile,
I couldn’t stand
to see you
like that,
but you were
always there
to comfort me
so now
it’s my turn,
you take my hand,
and promise
it will all be fine,
and I smile,
because you are okay,
you are safe
for tonight
