The Realm of Possibility

I used to look up at the stars in wonderment.
I counted them knowing well that it was
an impossible task.
The infinite number lured my attention
from the world of reality
to the realm of possibility.

Within my human sight,
there was a limitless existence.
No restrictions,
no boundaries,
no gravity holding me down.

As I have become disillusioned
in the modern ideals we call society,
I have lost sight of possibility.
My thoughts and visions
occur in finite measurements
while my body flows not with fluidity,
but with mechanical, involuntary movements.

My senses are drowned
in the same waters flooding my soul
from the tears that no longer surface.

But you shattered me.

You shattered the comfort I conformed to.
You broke the opacity shielding my heart.
Now I am transparent,
open to beauty
susceptible to pain;
left naked in the world of reality,
but finally captured and enamored
by the realm of possibility.
