Rope of Hope

I fell in love with a fantasy
Of who I wanted you to be

The illusion dissipates
And you don’t match what I’ve made

Oh how I wish you’ll start to imitate
The version of you that I create

Thinking that wishes are powered by hope
Playing the scenes of what could be on repeat
With each thought I’m continuously adding to the rope
As clear as day and never missing a beat

The length of the rope increases my ability
To turn my wishes into reality

But you lit the rope on fire
And with each disappointment it grew larger
And spread farther

Until all the rope was burnt
And all the hope now hurt

I was supposed to be the fire, and you the tree
No amount of hope can turn someone into who they aren’t willing to be
