How You Left

How you left is the same way you entered -
Bewildered

I wouldn’t kiss you with my heart locked away
And still you begged
For my lips to stay close to yours.
I regret missing myself
And nothing in your eyes.

I despise when my taken-for-granted love
Transcends into hedonism
Where did you think this couch would take us?
Further into the questions we need to ask
Taken to task
Self-awareness
Self is staring back into the mirror
Of carnival rides and wonderful facades.

Understand now that what I felt
While you knelt
In surprise
I tied your tongue in knots
And untied I no longer could deny
That too many drinks
Inevitably poured into sinks
Means we’re done.
Time to go get some sun!

Oh, she knows.
