The Darkness

Darkness

Darkness settles in with heaviness, a weight to great to bear.
It smothers flesh, bones, and soul, without regard or care.
Eyes wide open in the blackness can only see so far,
The darkness knows fear, it hides its smile, ready to devour.
Succumb to it quickly and go quietly, to never take a stand.
Inevitable paralysis, as it reaches out its hand.
It grips tightly, crushing any hope and feeding on pure fear.
An eternity of anguish, hopelessness so clear.
Rays of sunlight, licks of moonlight, will never light the way.
Darkness envelopes all around, a cloak of black and grey,
Hope diminished, realization there is nothing left,
No time for reflection, too late for regret.
Acceptance of loss will forever torment a soul in pain.
Realization and acute awareness the darkness will remain.
Forgotten, invisible, no one will ever know,
The darkness and surrender has taken up my soul.
