Life is beautiful

By: Ezekiel Gonzales

Hearing your voice is like a timeless melody;
a sound so pure and untainted by the likes of those who can’t compete
The road you took has led you to greatness
A place I have yet to reach
There is no one here to fill that space you made
Ease this ache, I beg of you
The distance has taken its toll
Closing my eyes, I see you
The bright light of death shrouds your frame

What little of you that’s left isn’t enough
Lonely meals, empty cups and darkened hope
Little trickles of what used to be seeps from the walls
Picture frames of smiles and life
have begun to shake and quiver at the loss of touch
Dust and grime frame them

Hearing your voice, one last time
I find strength in your words—in your soul
The remnants of your love bring my heart to beat,
a chorus
My name, the one you spoke of, has shredded my skin
No tears I have left to shed, as you hold my hand
Regretting last minute sentences
I yearn for our love

Closing my eyes, I see you
The bright light of death shrouds your frame
Does it make this life worth living?
Stay by side, ease this ache
I’ll stay where you did—
No matter how far away, you’re all that I see
Tell me stories of the past and I will listen
I’m no longer the child you left behind

Did the midnight hour strike you down
No longer do your words reach me
The space you left has left me—the me I used to be
Let your shadow bring me comfort
and I won’t beg for your return
