Cat in the Cradle

2006

A neopilgrim, a new desk for a new top
Jacobs sunrise– my reflection
someone burn the trees I chop
and meet me at the intersection

Wheres to say goodbye to youth and plenty
and forget yourself for the neophyte
grown up gestures at the end of twenty
I dont understand, but see the light

I avoid to burn– it only leaves me harm
but everytime you turn– I do. It feels but warm.

A neolithic remnant, a solid tower shelf
Dolores screams for my attention
someone else might conceive my self
like archaic voices of sound intention

Say goodbye to haze and ashes
live again and forget no more
Im the child that ignored hazard flashes
not knowing this cultures cradle to the core

Piano desk, let me feel the spirit of winter
I burn a candle for the habit I had to inter

Neoclassicism, scholastic proof
jinx me with a magic potion
Hold this baptism, Ill come aloof
with fatherproof, kept back emotion

Say goodbye to this lopsided love
and allow me, begetter, to introduce:
I flaunt and haunt so high above
but to you Ill always be Miss Abstruse.

And I will learn to slur, when I see your swollen face
getting closer to the nothingness, that you seem to embrace.
