Oh the ups and downs of it

Oh the ups and downs of it,
The swerves and speed of it,
Like a boat on the sea
That once covered this land,
The little country bus
Ploughed the empty lanes
Holding us safe and sound,

Cocooned in our seats,
Hills and dips and downs,
A roller-coaster ride so grand
Through trees of mayblossom
Striding with the hedgerows
Accompanied by columns of lace
Along the verges, waving

Us on in such white
Overwhelming beauty,
Like a dream of heaven
Poured down from above,
Bluebells in the woods,
Cattle on the sunny sides,
Luscious green everywhere,

A living landscape painting,
Rushing through Derbyshire,
This seagreen surfaced world
Of many sheens and shades,
White the crowning glory
Of lustful spring reborn,
Powdered, sprinkled and

Blossom-blessed, dressed.
Oh the ups and downs of it,
Our scenic journey to the teeming  town,
The swerves and thrill of it,
The driver and his passengers
Happy as children out of school
About to break every rule.
