A Tear For Another

There’s a little white church at the edge of this town
And it’s next to a park in “Goose-Feather-Down”.
The park isn’t much, just some grass and some trees
And an old wishing well, if wishing would please.

There’s a story that’s told about that old wishing well,
About a Spirit in linen and the sound of a bell.
It is said if your wish brings a tear to the spirit
It will echo to heaven, so even God hears it.

Yes, I’ve been to this park in Goose-Feather-Down,
And I’ve wished at that well, hearing no sound.
But another heard the bell and it made my heart glad
and I’m not sorry, dear spirit, that I made you so sad.
