All Around

Where came that shadow that wandered in?
That light-less vision that knows no friend.
Shall I seek concealment, or duties to tend,
So its heartless deeds don’t leave me pinned?

Suddenly I looked and saw it near
Too near for comfort, too far for fear.
Then it formed darkness and I cried a tear
For the sounds of darkness were all I could hear.

Now the shadow casts darkness, all around,
It permeates space, it penetrates ground.
It has hold of my heart and makes it pound
Whenever my love is not around.
