“The Best Laid Plans”

There once was a Wizard of old
(At least, that’s what I’ve been told.)
That could change a something to another
A wolf to a goat or a lake to a moat
From bad —- to very good weather.

In this land called The Valley of Seirots
He changed all the kumquats to carrots.
He eats them a lot, more likely as not
Because they are good for his eyes.

Sometimes he changes himself
To an Eagle or even an Elf.
Whatever is needed or whoever is greeted
Might give rise to a moment’s disguise.

A collection of books is the Wizard’s pride
So a library was added to his Castle’s inside
To keep his treasures safe from harm.
He might conjure up a charm.

But alas
It is true what they say
Nothing lasts forever
And to dust they all stray.
So the Wizard thought it best
If Fate found no test
So he quickly conjured a Literary Charm.

He mixed up a brew that turned to gas
He mixed so much it gassed in a mass
In the center of the Library Room
It became a clouded tomb.

But back in the corner was a book well pressed
It was sealed tightly, not loose like the rest,
And all inside escaped the doom;
There in the cloud of the Library Room.

Inside the book, sealed safe and secure,
Was a family of worms, (Bookworms I’m sure.)
They were fat and happy as worms could be
Inside a book about a Blue Gum Tree.

The Wizard’s gas never reached these guys
(Nothing is perfect under Seirots skies)
So a family of worms lives on, (You see?),
Munching from “A” to “Z”.
