Laying Here With a Broken Heart

Laying here with a broken heart.

I tried so hard to keep it together,

But it completely fell apart.

I held it out for her in my hands.

I knelt down and closed my eyes,

Only she crushed it into bits of sand.

I picked up all of it’s tiny pieces.

Put them into a jar and sealed it.

Held it out and told her my love never ceases.

She held me tight.

She said that she loved me.

She slept in my bed almost every night.

But she couldn’t commit.

I have too much baggage,

That is something I have to admit.

This jar of sand will sit on the shelf.

Her love I couldn’t keep,

I guess I’ll just have to love myself.

I’ve never felt do broken before.

I’ve never wanted anyone more.

For at least I had the chance,

To meet someone I could honestly adore.
