Spoken Like a Fool

Why is it when we feel hurt,
we lash out to hurt the ones we think caused us to hurt.

It only results in more pain,
things said that we didn’t mean.

Things said that we can’t take back,

pushing it further off track.

Speaking out of hurt and anger,

Puts the whole thing in more danger.

We act on the hurt and push them away,

when all we want is to be heard and have them stay.

But we don’t hold our tongues,

and when they leave we cry from out lungs.

We weep until our tears can’t roll,

too late do we realize that we had spoken like a fool.
