Everything‘s Poetic
By David N. Donihue
This is the most depressed I’ve ever been
Except for maybe the last time
that was the most depressed I’ve ever been
And definitely the more than the first time
that was the depressed I’ve ever
My fault I sorta fucked up again
Owned by crutches
Loved the wrong people
Then left for dead
Hollowed by their evils
My God, life was supposed to be
F—ing meaningful
Yet everything‘s poetic
When you’re a romantic inside
Everything’s poetic
Just reframe the world in the mind
Everything’s poetic
When you’re desperate to love life
After being kicked in the groin
Thrown out of the tribe
Everything’s poetic
When you choose the empath’s ride
Feeling others pain
Removes anger from the stride
A new rhythm obvious
Isolated words now rhyme
Yelling captain, my captain
On the desk right at 9
Rain on pavement
Hopeful statements
Grouchy elders
Fucked up faces
Withered flowers
Untied laces
Stumbling forward
With God’s graces
Shattered windows
Tattered héros
Feel at one
With all the zeros
Everything’s poetic
When you choose the empaths ride
Everything’s poetic
When you’re honest inside
Nothing can hurt you
When pain is part of painting
The story of mankind
Everythings poetic
The hurting
And the healers
And the homos
And the breeders
The hooligans
And tweakers
The u
pright-loving thinkers
The well-intended preachers
The broke with pricey sneakers
Life becomes kinetic when you love all those creatures
At what point will we be ill instead of f—ing sick
I know you’ve swam through feces yet you’ve emerged the s—
Your face just says poetic with every added line
No matter the terror you’ve lived
You’re the beauty of f— life
Everything’s poetic when you choose the empath’s ride
Everything’s poetiic when you’re honest inside
Everything’s poetic when you’re desperate to love life
After being kicked in the grown
Thrown out of the tribe
Everything’s poetic when you choose the empath’s ride
Feeling other’s pain removes anger from the stride
A new rhythm obvious
Isolated words now rhyme
Yelling captain my captain
Whenever you cross my mind
