Petty Thoughts

I am a man of high ideals and small thoughts

Hours occupied by the detritus of life
conference calls, training sessions, brainstorming meetings
Diminutive decisions
Reverberating through the world
Marring the beautiful
Soothing the burns and aches of the rest of us

Am I good at this or just lucky?
My ego, adamant and unassailable, holds itself as true
But I know of the cracks and crevices that blind me
And am not so foolish as to hold myself infallible

We think of ourselves as hopeless and small
Blind to the ripples and waves we cast into the world
Our own despair obscuring our import
