Chemo

To: Aunt Dawn, Lauren and Jason

Invisible waves of movement
Maneuver through the honeycomb in my head
My corpse hypnotized by the chill
As I lay on my callous bed

I drift through the bleached white tunnel
Into the place that will save me
Only to be yanked by the snarling noise
Of the hissing drones

I feel them crawling inwards
Through all my layers
Into my strawberry center
And begin to eat away my contagion

As I exit the bleached white tunnel
They leave a sting
Marking me forever
With a silk head and a dreary eye

It is their only way of saying
Things will get better

I was trying to imagine what chemo/radiation feels like. I know this may not be accurate but it is thought provoking. My aunt had cancer when I was just a baby, my boyfriend's brother is struggling with it now and one of my friends recently found out she does too. I wrote this in honor of them. Stay strong. Keep Fighting.
