Fallen angel

Dirty, fallen angel
With your dented, grubby halo
You’ve been up all night again,
Drinking with the devil’s foot soldier.

He’s left his smell on you
His imprint, his mark, his brand
He’s trickling down your leg as you sway,
Sway all the way home.

Your tarnished silver ha’penny bit soul
Too weak, too weak, too damn weak
Temptation called, your reckless streak
Ran toward it, laughing, sashaying, revelling in rebelling.

Throwing off your angel wings,
Shrugging off your harness,
Delving into hidden places,
Seeking out the darkness.

Dirty, fallen angel
Scuffed shoes in one hand,
Bent and buckled halo in the other.
Straggled, golden head bowed low,
Walking barefoot in the dirt.
