Occasionally Every Day

From poetry book, The Girl Who Moves Forward by Everkesia Taylor

Sometimes,
She folds herself
To cover the typos and errors
That wrap around the
Pages of her skin.

Sometimes,
She holds herself in cotton,
Linen, wool, and silk,
And more often,
In her own thick skin.

Sometimes,
She hides in that very skin
To evince the mask
Of a woman she isn’t
Of the woman she thinks
She is ought to be,
And while she show this
Mask to the world,
It is the only face she
Sometimes show herself.

Sometimes,
She burns herself
With sentiments
Just to see how
It feels to care,
To be broken,
To be changed by her own
Heart’s habits.

Sometimes, she walks out
Of the house naked.

This is from Everkesia’s poetry book, The Girl Who Moves Forward.
