Aging Denim

I am a pair of 1993 Levi’s jeans
My skin is firm but soft enough
To not be too itchy.
My bones are sewed well together but have a few dangling strands
That you can tug at
Or cut off
If you need to.
My coating is denim blue
For the most part
But in some areas
It can also be lobelia
Or naval,
depending on how you look at it.
I am not too tight
So you can still sit down and not feel suffocated,
But I’m also not too loose,
So you can still feel my presence.
You can roll my cuffs,
Or let them touch the floor
Even if it’s dirty
I promise I don’t mind.
I have one hole here
And one hole there,
Nice enough to wear me out
But casual enough to wear me in.

I know that I’ll go out of style
Within the coming time
(I have before, after all)
But I’ll always be waiting
In the back of your closet
Letting the dust envelope me
In hopes of you
Liking me again
Or at least enough
To wear out once or twice.
