Tide

Let’s watch the ocean.
You can be my ocean girl.
Dig your toes into the sand with me. Let’s watch the sun sink you and I.
Chase away the seagulls from eating up our lunch and name every one.
Who cares about the sand, we’ll take it home with us in our tiedyed shirts and our wet swim trunks.
We can leave our shoes at the top of the hill and run and roll and race all the way to the waves.
We can dance to the music of the sea crashing against the rocks and gulls crying above us.
Let’s get taunted by the riptide.
Get lazy with me baby.
We can nap on our sandy bath towels that cling to our wet bodies like a second skin.
Lounging in the sun like two fat tabbies. Let the ocean be your second love and let me be your first.
Find a special home in me.
One that’s by the beach.

I wrote this watching the sunset in Malibu, thinking about a woman who will never love me. It's not really a poem it's more of a wish and an expression of feeling.
