Afternoons

“The trouble with retirement is that you never get a day off.”
~ Abe Lemons

“It’s paradoxical that the idea of living a long life appeals to everyone,
but the idea of getting old doesn’t appeal to anyone.”
– Andy Rooney

The day I retired
My skills didn’t diminish
Nor did they vanish
Yet, now I’m out to pasture
As useful as horse manure

A keen mind I’ve got
Problem solving comes easy
Quickly and breezy
Add subtract and multiply
Yes, I can do on the fly

But I spend my afternoons
Watching laughing at cartoons
On my rocker daydreaming
Or pond’ring on life’s meaning
